Saturday Photo Hunt - Sweet

It seems I'm off the blogroll - not active enough lately, I guess :-(
But this one's up, anyway, and the theme is sweet:

This is what hubby went out and bought before breakfast today - and we've had three of them already! Sweet, lovely, red, and full of vitamins and iron and goodness....

What's The World Coming To???

Real Life is quite hectic - who would have guessed there's a holiday on???
This post is sponsored, by the way - by
this site, this one, and even this one!
The great thing about this opp is that I can talk about anything I want - as long as I link to these sites... I'll link to the rest of them in a minute...

Anyway - I don't drive kids nearly as much when they're in school... We got # 1 car back from the garage yesterday - driving a car that's actually got fully functioning brakes is a welcome novelty! It had signalling lights for a moment, too, but then the fuse went (again), so it seems the garage only treated the symptoms. Back we go tomorrow - the police are quite particular about that sort of thing.

I'm not going to bother about being contextual here - here's the rest of the required links: Navtej Kohli is the name of the advertiser, and he's building links to his online profiles. Oh, look! I'm being contextual! OK - last one: Here it is!

That was fun... OK - tomorrow: car back to garage, holidaying hubby in to work (he was at work today AND yesterday - howzat for a holiday...), and hopefully some sun and a trip to the beach.

See you all!

A Friday Update

This will be my last Friday Update - as of tomorrow, I'll be doing monthly stats.

Alexa is moving upwards (or downwards, as it were), but now that I've sussed her out, I know that those numbers will look atrocious 2 - 3 months from now, due to me being so lax in my blogging lately... No updates, no visitors ( I still haven't worked out how they know...)
Technorati is stable - nothing going up - or down!
Google seems to be giving me the benefit of the doubt, or maybe their 'bot just hasn't gotten 'round to me yet...

Moneywise - 86 USD, but that's two weeks' worth - no Update last week.
Adsense was something like 10 cents - regardless of Mr Chows' "Your Blog's A Moneymaker" ad...
I was somewhat active last week, and I got lucky too - one opp from ReviewMe was worth all of 50 bucks!

One addition to the fold - Smorty - not the greatest choice just yet, but I've done a couple for them, and they're quick - they pay straight away. The same goes for Bloggerwave - they pay quickly, but the choice of opps has been limited so far.

Gadget Time!

Gone are the days when you had to turn on your computer to view your favourite digital photos...

Now, you can view your holiday snaps, wedding photos and video clips (with sound!) on digital photo frames anywhere in your home - on the living room wall, on the mantelpiece, on your nightstand or in the kitchen!
Digital Framez offer digital picture frames from 7 to 10 inches, in various stylish designs, to match your interior.

All you have to do is take a picture or movie, put your memory card in thedigital frame, and view.

With your digital photo frame, you can even set the period of time you want your pictures to be displayed for and how you prefer the transitions between your photos.

No more worrying about all the photos you never get 'round to mounting in albums, no more huddling in front of the PC while you locate the right file... Your family pics, nature pics, wedding pics are right there on the wall for everyone to admire. And you can throw in that video of baby's first steps, too!!

I want one! I fact, I want several - the prices aren't that bad - I checked, because I was sure that something like this must cost an arm and a leg. It doesn't.

Check out Digital Framez - I'm sure you've got a spot or two where one of these babies would fit just fine. I do - and I've just thought of the perfect Christmas present for the in-laws... (As long as I take the pictures and push the buttons for them, they'd absolutely love it!).

Thursday Thirteen # 11

Thirteen Things that have kept me from BLOGGING lately

1. Funeral arrangements and funeral - time- and thoughtconsuming...

2. I finally got hold of the last remaining boards, and finished making my terrace:

3. I made a table, too! And a little table and stools for # 5 Brat. (Top pic, left hand side...)

4. We've had the house tarred, and the boys needed to be looked after and fed - I'm glad it's done, I hate having workers around that I feel follow my every move... But it looks great!

5. We've had a plumber around too - sorting out a minor sewage problem.

6. The weather's been lovely these last few days!

7. The kids are finally off school - the last few days were a nightmare of coming and going at various times - they may as well have been let off a week earlier.

8. We've got two new horses - Bianca and Sputnik - the two Fjords on the pics.

9. We've been busy in the garden!

10. I've been on a girls' trip - not a long one, but blogging was not in the picture!

11. We've lost (and found) a dog - our Border Collie bitch, Lass, was suddenly gone without a trace one morning. She's pregnant, so we were doubly worried. Luckily, # 4 brat found her trotting around in the woods... Safe and sound.

12. I've been trotting around in the woods too - looking for mushrooms. I'll be doing more of that as summer progresses - and I guess I'll have to post pics of what I find. I go for the safe varieties, though - no chances taken in that department. I'll also have to find the English names for the ones we favour!

13. Can't think of a # 13 - all the other aspects of Real Life, maybe?...

Life Back To Normal

Last week was non-blogging week for me - I was on hand for my uncle all week - he needed a lot of support with funeral arrangements, talking to ministers and such, and the funeral was on Friday. It all went as well as these things can go.

My aunt wanted to be buried with her sister (my mum), but that sadly wasn't possible, since burials in the 60's in this country were particular... The corpses were routinely wrapped in plastic (!) Which means that all the natural processes are stopped, and you just don't reopen those graves. Normally, here, graves can be reused after 20 years, but those have to be left alone. So she was laid to rest "next door", with her brother.
The ceremony was beautiful, and it was very moving to stand at my mothers' graveside with her sisters' coffin...

The "do" afterwards assembled most of the family, which was nice, in a melancholy way. My uncle will be OK in time, but he was far from ready to lose the love of his life. I guess no one ever is...

On Saturday, my two cousins and I went off on a little trip down memory lane, up into the mountains, and did a lot of talking, a bit of drinking and some socialising with relatives. We came back last night, after a 36 hours' "girls' trip". Very nice indeed!

Today, Monday, life is back to normal, blogging can be resumed, and I can go and check on those paid opps I've accepted, but not had time to do... I hope I'm not banned from everywhere! I've had a plumber in to sort out some unfinished sewage business, and the house is being tarred (yes, we opted for tar on our outer walls - it's beautiful, it gives a natural "burnt" look). The smell is overpowering at times, though, but once it dries things will almost get back to normal there too. We'll probably all be smelling like stave churches for a while, though!

Two more days, and the kids start their summer holidays! Blogging may not be as consistent, but I can't promise anything. Being addicted, I may just find the time...

So sorry Mo, for missing your Manic Monday Friends theme yesterday.
I'm young (blog-wise), but getting to know you all is proving to be a fun experience, and I hope that in time, I can call quite a few of you my friends. When you all come over for dinner, let's fill in the blanks, shall we...?

Auntie In Memoriam

Saturday night, just before midnight, my aunt died. She was only 70, but had been ailing from what we believe to have been Alzheimers' disease for around 7 years. She was never officially diagnosed with Alzheimers', and what it's called doesn't really matter. Her mind went gradually, and with it the will to eat, drink and... live. My uncle stood by her all this time - it wasn't until just before Christmas that she was institutionalised, because he was unable to get her to eat. He's been a tower of strength, and he's totally shattered by her death.
They didn't have children of their own - it was just the two of them and their love for each other, and now he's on his own. Too soon, too unfair, but life is like that sometimes.
She had a great impact on my life when I was a child. My mother (her sister) died when I was very young, and Auntie was always there for me (and my father), with practical help, gifts, taking me on holidays, and so on.
She looked after her own mother for many years, helping her to stay on at home for as long as possible, and taking care of her after she had to go into a home.
She cared for her brother, my two cousins, her friends - for all of us, always, until her own disease prevented her from caring, even for herself.

I couldn't do much for her in recent years - there wasnt' much anyone could do - my uncle did it all...
I'll be there for him now, though, helping him to get through this week before the funeral, and supporting him through all the practical things that follow. And being there for him in the lonely time ahead.

I hope she's reunited with her dear departed - her parents and her brother and sister, with whom she'll be sharing her final resting place.

RIP.

Any Net/ PC Savvies Out There?

Internet Dummy here, with a question... Sometimes, my blocking cookie (yes, I know what it's called, but that's about it!) at Statcounter falls out, so I have to create a new one. Annoying, and possibly a reason to change venues in that department, but now to the question:

Usually, when that happens,I'll count one or two visits from myself. Not having many visitors from Norway, I'm pretty sure it's me. But I have several different IP adresses! Is that normal? I've clocked myself in with 3 so far... Anyone know?

Not that it makes much difference, but it's one of the things I wonder about. Also, I was taught at an early age that there's no such thing as a stupid question...

Another Opportunity For Bloggers!

Smorty have accepted this blog - hooray!
Smorty is a service that connects advertisers with bloggers. Bloggers get paid for blogging by writing opinion posts on their blogs, with links back to the advertisers' site.

Blog advertising is a great way for advertisers to create buzz for their products, and a great way for bloggers to get paid to blog.

Why I do this? Because I enjoy it! I get to use my little gray cells, I get to view and review products and sites that I may never have found otherwise, and it sometimes gives me topics to blog about even though writers' block is looming... I also like earning the extra cash, of course - it will hopefully be going towards a nice holiday for my (huge) family.

Smorty is a new venue for me, but the overall impression so far is favourable. My blog was reviewed within 48 hours (they say to reckon with 72, so I was pleasantly surprised), and the opps available right away are decent.

I like the layout of Smortys' site, too, it's very comprehensive and easy to read, and your account homepage (once you've signed in) contains all you need to know: New opportunities, info on posts taken, approved or rejected and payment history - all on one page. Very good!
I'm happy so far - I hope they'll be happy with me, too.

Not Exactly 007...

What do you get if you decipher the following secret code:
SHX OGUONPR ZI RWP MAEJ ZUSBO-VCJSFPX OPKJCBLUSBP SGDURMPR ?

The answer is:

SPY SWEEPER IS THE MOST AWARD-WINNING ANTISPYWARE SOFTWARE

The statement refers to Webroot Spy Sweeper, branded by PC Magazine as " a favorite for protection from spyware" and by PC World as "Our top choice...".

With spyware growing more sophisticated and malicious by the minute, we're all depending more and more on our virus and spyware detection systems. In fact, unless they are on the ball and ahead of the game, we may as well kiss blogging goodbye - we'd spend all our time solving PC problems, and who can be bothered with that?

Spy Sweeper offers what they call 360 degrees of protection, blocking known and emerging spyware before they even reach your PC and personal info.

Their defense update system is constantly expanding, and as a subscriber, these updates are automatically forwarded to you at no extra cost. Their live customer support system (by phone or online) is also totally free.

Spy Sweeper 5.3 is compatible with Windows Vista, and can be configured to suit the individual needs of the user.

You can choose between Quick, Full and Custom Sweep, depending on your immediate need. You can also exclude files from a sweep to save time. The setup and menus are easy to use, even for new users.
Enhanced Smart Shields prevent highly developed spyware programs from installing on your computer. You'll be alerted to any changes in your PC's core functions, including startup, memory and Internet security settings.

As for the secret code deciphered above - here's a collection of awards and recommendations recieved by Spy Sweeper, from various magazines and websites from 2005 through 2007, including PC World Best Buy, PC Magazine Editors Choice and more.

I'm off to try a free scan over at their site now. Chances are there's some 007 bad guy lurking in my machine...

I hope to get to "know" some new people this way, too!

Dress Up, Dress Down...

As a child, I used to love dressing up - us girls were endlessly rummaging through lofts and female relatives' wardrobes and make-up boxes, using and abusing anything we could find.
Since then, I've entertained a dream of attending a proper ball - you know, the Venetian type Mardi Gras affair, complete with Renaissance Costumes, Feathered Masks, period music - the works!

I'm by no means a seamstress, though... I might be able to tie a sheet around my slightly oversized frame and call it a toga, but for a do like that, I'd have to seek professional help! Halloween Express seems just the ticket.

Don't let the name fool you. Halloween is, of course, the main time of year for any company selling Costumes, but here, you can find anything you need for almost every holiday, and for all types of events, themed or otherwise.
You can even take your dog - check out this Superman Pet number!

There are kids costumes galore, ranging from Piglet (I know, it's out of stock at the moment, but I just had to include it - soooo adorable!) to Jack Sparrow, via Buccaneers, Star Wars Characters, Doctors and Princesses.

For adults, there are a variety of sexy costumes of course (they don't make nurses like this anymore, careers costumes, Gladiators, Egyptian, Greek, Horror movie characters, Jesters and Elisabethan Queens. Plus, plus, plus!!!Quite a few are available in supersizes too.

I couldn't possibly list everything - with all the accessories, makeup, props and costumes, that would make a very boring post... Let me just say that I'd have a field day if I were let loose on their stock! So, come to think of it, would all my 6 kids... (Please, please, can we come and try everything???)

AS I explored the site, all I could think was: Never mind Halloween, I want to host a costume party... How about inviting a bunch of people, picking a theme, and mailing them the link to Halloween Express... How fun would that be????

The site is well categorised, so it's easy to find what you need - they do same day shipping, so you can (almost) shop at the last minute, and international shipping will be available soon - Yea!

A Friday Update

Writing reviews brought in 32 dollars this week - not too bad, considering I took a day off blogging yesterday and most of the weekend, and I didn't feel that Blogblast for Peace Day on Wednesday was suitable for sponsored posting.
I've signed up with Smorty as well - they too offer sponsored posting - just waiting to see whether I'm accepted there. Not because I want to do more opps, but because I want more opps to choose from. I can't write about just anything - there needs to be some sort of inspiration...
Adsense is disappointing, all of 2 cents don't you know!
Alexa jumped me up 15 000 this week, but I have a feeling that'll go up and down a bit for a while now (Ranking is a measure for stats 3 months ago, and I know I've been down to under 100 000 during the last month. A week ago I was back above 200 000 though!)
I hope Google keeps me on 3 - nothing is static in this Blogging universe, so you never know...

This coming week looks promising - stay tuned!

A Glass Of Red, Anyone?

I do enjoy a glass of wine from time to time. Not often these days, the kids usually have to be driven somewhere, but when we have a chance, hubby and I enjoy sharing a nice bottle of red.

I'm a Francophile, which has brought us to France on quite a few occasions, and a trip to France includes one or two visits to wineries... Usually, a few very good bottles will then find their way into our luggage. Those need storing until that special occasion - some of them can and should be stored for years and years to fully reach their potential.

That's when a Wine Rack comes in handy.
Whether you need a professional storage system for your wine cellar, a basic rack for under your stairs, a frilly hanging job for decorating your dining room or bar, or a fun bottle holder for your counter, The Vine Store's got them all, and more!
They also carry all sorts of Wine Accessories - again both for the serious collector and for the likes of me, who just enjoy Life's Good Things!

We use a basic wooden rack, that's hidden away under the stairs, for the bottles that are waiting for a special occasion, but I wouldn't mind a proper display type rack, like this one, for more current wines, in my dining room. Whenever possible, we like serving wine when we have guests - there's nothing like a good glass of chilled white with fresh shrimps in the summer, or like a glass of St.Emilion with moose or lamb...

If anyone should be in doubt: I know that there are (many) other wine-producing countries apart from France, and I do enjoy a good wine regardless of origin. It's just that France is my #2 homeland, and drinking a chilled glass of Gewürztraminer from Alsace is almost like being back there. Almost... Pure nostalgia!

Mash for cash... The News Room is a site that gives you access to hundreds of thousands of news stories that can be published (mashed) on your site. Content providers are AP, Reuters, and others.

It's easy to embed the videos on your site, you just press the "mash" button and you've got the code. It's free, all you have to do is sign up, and you can earn money from it as well!

The CPM rate starts at 1 USD, which is a share of the advertising. You also get paid if others mash a video or news feed from your site and publish it on theirs.

There are prizes to be won for participating as well, ranging from digital cameras via vacations to a new car...

So if you want to embed relevant news stories, celeb news, or fun stuff on your site, go see The News Room!

I nosed around there for a while, and found this, in the Life and Leisure feed: (please click on "2000 Gather for Nude Photo Shoot")

Funny Old Gnome

I keep wondering about the workings of the Blogosphere... Why is it, that on the days when I'm all prolific and creative, and update this blog on an hourly basis, visitors keep pouring in (pouring is a relative term in my blogging world, but you know what I mean). Whereas on the days (like this weekend) when I don't update, there's just a tiny trickle of poppers-by??

What little gnome have I missed? I can picture him, sitting in there somewhere, popping onto peoples' screens, saying something like: she's written another one, go see... Or: nothing going on at her place, go play Solitaire instead!

It's just that he doesn't tell me anything... I have to go all over the place to see what's going on. Or not.
And I don't mind - I enjoy visiting y'all. It's just that I'm wondering what 6th sense I'm lacking, or which 'net gnome/troll/pixie I just don't know about...

Office Furniture - a wish list

May I try to create a verbal picture of my "Work Space":
One low recliner, one printer table type thingy, that can - just - accomodate my keyboard, modem and flat screen... The hard drive is on the floor by the side of this arrangement, complete with coffee cup, and behind it, a very dusty entanglement of wires... Underneath, on a shelf, the printer/scanner, that has just enough space above it to slide a piece of paper inside...

At Saxen, they seem to have the solution to all my problems. Desks, storage, conference tables, office chairs.... oh, yes, this Online Office Furniture Retailer has it all. Item # 1 on my wish list - this Home Office Computer Desk should provide ample space for my coffee cup, and I probably wouldn't have to store papers on the floor, either! Should the need arise, though, this Storage Cupboard should do the trick. And what about this Leather Chair? My back (all crouched in front of my PC) is screaming for it!!!

This'll do for me, but if you need furniture for your office or your work space at home, be it desks, storage, computer hide-aways, conference furniture or chairs. they even have some very cute wooden desks and chairs for kids - complete with ink bottles and pencil boxes. They do stationery and office accessories too, and they can help with interior landscaping.

Delivery within the UK Mainland is included in the prices listed.

22 cents with Adsense... I've stopped using Bidvertise, nothing going there, and for all I know, Google may take offense. Adsense at least tries to come up with contextual ads.
53 dollars doing reviews this week, and a new venue as well, Bloggerwave. Loudlaunch have accepted me too, but I haven't tried them out yet. Opps are too weird!
All in all USD 53,22 this week, which isn't bad.
Alexa jumps twice a week - Mondays and Thursdays. I think I moved something like 40 000 places again this week, and my stats are showing on their graph now, which must mean that I've jumped some kind of hurdle... I'm stuck on 14 odd thousand at Technorati, but that's ok too!
